Rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) is reported to be the sixth most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States. The statistic is evidence of how much import is given to the nose and its appearance.
The surgeon's objective in rhinoplasty is to accent the positive, build on it and then also refine the negative. The surgeon aims to make the "new" nose fit the aesthetic facial proportions of the patient's face and of course, at the same time, to allow the nose to efficiently deliver air to the lungs. Several levels of assessment are necessary. One important aspect is the age of the patient. Most surgeons prefer not to operate on teenagers until they have stopped growing. Teens require especially careful evaluation as to their expectations and their motivation in having the surgery.
