More Americans Approve of Plastic Surgery (07-2001)

A new 2001 survey of American households, issued in March, shows that 61% of women and 63% of men approve of cosmetic surgery. That number is seven percent more women and nineteen percent more men than in the previous year's survey themselves.

The survey, conducted by the independent research firm Market Facts, showed the highest approval rating (68%) was among people 18 to 24 year old, with baby boomers not far behind (63% saying they approve of cosmetic surgery).

The greater public acceptance of cosmetic surgery means that people are more open about making changes in their appearance. Among both women and men, 77% said they would not be embarrassed if people outside their immediate family and close friends knew they had undergone a cosmetic surgical procedure.
