2010 Quick Facts - Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Demographic Trends (01-2012)

It has already been established that cosmetic surgery procedures are up in the general population. What is perhaps most interesting is that it’s up “across the board.” It’s not only middle-aged women who are taking advantage of new techniques in plastic surgery. Men and younger people are also looking to cosmetic surgery for “fixes” to their appearance. Another significant change is that cosmetic procedures are no longer something to be secretive about. People are proud of the fact that they are doing something positive to their appearance and are often recommending those procedures to friends and family members who might also benefit. Not every cosmetic procedure is appropriate for everyone. It’s important for you to discuss not only what procedures are available to you, but also your motivation and your expectation of results. Dr. Hagerty is available to consult with you and help to both educate and advise you.

By Age

People age 13-19 had the least number of cosmetic procedures last year, only 2% of the total. Some of the most common procedures for teens were: nose reshaping, male breast reduction, ear surgery, laser hair removal, laser treatment of leg veins, and laser skin resurfacing.
