Your Doctor Continues His Education (03-2012)

Every patient deserves an experienced surgeon. When you, as the patient, have any surgical procedure, you deserve to have a surgeon who has practiced for a significant number of years and two brings this knowledge to your surgery. In addition to being experienced, Dr. Hagerty is required and does take continuing education courses. Now, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is offering another way for your doctor. to keep up with the latest news in his field. The ASPS recently created a website site, designed and run by plastic surgeons for plastic surgeons. Its aim is to provide him with a one-stop-shop where he can view the latest news and techniques from his computer or mobile device. ASPS partnered with the subspecialty societies in order to meet the needs of all plastic surgeons:

- American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS)

- American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS)

- American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons (ASMS)

- American Society for Peripheral Nerve (ASPN)

- American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM)

- American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS)

- Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC)

PSEN allows the surgeon to look over whatever material is pertinent to his or her practice. The Network provides CME (Continuing Medical Education) courses, procedural videos, case reports and even personalized self-assessment tools.

"The Plastic Surgery Education Network looks forward to the site becoming a primary, online resource that will provide plastic surgeons with learning tools for every style and phase of practice. The Network projects that its resources will expand over time. The editor-in-chief, Al Aly, MD, professor of plastic surgery at the University of California, Irvine, stated that “The Plastic Surgery Education Network promises to be the ultimate educational tool for plastic surgeons of all levels - young and old, experienced and inexperienced, beginner and expert. It is very exciting to be involved in building what promises to be one of the most widely utilized plastic surgery education tools in the history of the specialty." PSEN participants are not limited to the courses and content designed by the editors, as the Community area offers message boards for members to discuss and exchange ideas.
