Botox, or botulinum toxin, is an injectable treatment used to relax from lines to the forehead and around the eyes. We use either Botox or Dysport, which have identical mechanisms of action. Both are neurotoxins, which prevent unwanted muscle action involved with frown lines or crow’s feet around the eyes. They may also be used to relax forehead lines.

The treatment is performed in office. A topical anesthetic (EMLA) is used to anesthetize the skin.  Injections are placed in the target muscles between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and the forehead. An ice pack is applied for comfort. There is essentially no down time, sometimes there may be a little bruising. After two days, the patient will notice some relaxation of the muscles, and by ten to fourteen days, the full effect will be seen. Treatments last about four months. Retreatment is usually done after four to six months.
