The Healing Process

What's the healing process like after surgery?

Most people heal well and most of our patients tell us there is very little pain after facial cosmetic surgery. As a rule, our patients go through the postoperative period easily, have their stitches removed, and look "brand new" fairly quickly. Some patients experience some discomfort. They describe it as pain upon pressure, tightness, or aching. Many patients express concern about touching the surgery site.

At post-op examination time, we usually find that the healing process is coming along just as anticipated and as outlined in preoperative consultations. There are always normal amounts of firmness, bruising, tightness, hardness and redness. More often than not it isn't pain that is the issue as much as the patient's anxiety that perhaps things are not going the way they expected.

It's not unusual for you to experience some uneasiness after surgery. Remember that surgery is both a physical and an emotional process and has both physical and emotional results.

Just remember that you will undoubtably, to coin a phrase, feel better as you feel better. Probably you will go through the same process as many patients do. It's not unusual to feel your courage dwindling during the healing phase. It's not unusual for you to feel that your expectations do not quite meet your results.

All of these feelings are natural. All of these feelings are normal. Give yourself the pampering you need so that time can work its wonders. Take really good care of yourself. Remember to take your pain medication in order to be more comfortable. Trust that you have made a good decision and are working with the best plastic surgery team. Ask us any questions you have and let the process take its natural course. Be patient and sooner than you know, we hope, you will feel better!
